Cavalia

For Christmas I bought my daughter tickets to Cavalia. Until last year (when I saw an ad in the Sunday Times) I had never heard of this show - I have since found out Cavalia (and Cavalia Odysseo) have been around for about ten years!.

For those who may never have heard of this show I have copied the blurb from their website below:

Cavalia is a fresh mix of equestrian and performing arts, multimedia and special effects. Conceived by Normand Latourelle and often labelled an equestrian ballet, Cavalia is a spectacular and moving tribute to the relationship between human and horses throughout history, a dream of freedom, cooperation and harmony. In a fairy tale setting filled with poetry and emotion, the show innovatively integrates acrobatics, dance, aerial stunts, live music and equestrian arts. Under the White Big Top, a 50-metre stage permits the horses to express themselves in all their splendour, nobility and strength, often completely free
As it was a Christmas gift we (well my daughter did!) went the whole hog, treating ourselves to the Rendez-vous VIP Experience. These tickets included:
  • Access to the VIP lounge 90 minutes before the show, during intermission and after the show.
  • Centre-row seats
  • Complimentary food
  • Complimentary drinks (wine, bubbly, beers and cold drinks)
  • Dessert during intermission
  • Souvenir catalogue (full of stunning photographs from various performances)
  • Stables tour after the show

Arriving an hour & half before the show we were treated to a lovely food spread - various salads, satay sticks, rolls....enough variety and quantity to satisfy anyone. (we did not eat dinner before the show and found this spread very filling and satisfying). We also were able to drink as much as we liked from the bar - I had 2 glasses of bubbly plus a soft drink.

Once inside the main tent we found our seats were definitely centre row. We had excellent seats - smack bang in the middle and about a quarter of the way up the rows - perfect uninterrupted viewing!.

We did have a giggle as once seated we were presented with a series of toy horses. I did say to my daughter...'well this is a let down, thought we were coming to see real horses'(lol!)

Obviously photography was not allowed so sorry no photographs of the actual show...and anyway it was so mesmerising I didn't even think of taking photographs. Check out the Cavalia website (http://www.cavalia.net) for some great videos and photographs from their shows.

All I can say the show was absolutely AWESOME.... the horses were fabulous and the riders definitely had an affinity with those glorious creatures. As well as being spectacular there was also humour injected.....with one horse being quite naughty and refusing to follow instruction.

It was a magical experience and well worth the money. I will definitely be going to any future show they may bring to town. The sheer athleticism, effortlessness and grace of both the riders/acrobats and horses was breath taking!. They made it all look so easy.

Following the performance we had a tour of the stables. Before entering the stables we were told we could take as long as we wanted and take as many photographs (without flash) as we desired. Just please do not attempt to touch the horses (an explanation was given as to why). Unfortunately within seconds of entering the stables one man decided to ignore those warnings. A shame that some people are so ignorant and disrespectful (and when I say a man I men a fully grown adult - shame on you sir!).

The show features more than 45 horses from 11 different breeds (including Appaloosa, Percheron, Australian Stock horse, Arabian and Ardennais).

Oh what magnificent creatures they are!. They were beautiful and it was obvious from their environment and the attitude of the groomers that these creatures were very well looked after and very much loved.

What a magical night we had - we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. I would encourage any one who has the opportunity to see this show - it is well worth it!.
